Steve Hargan pitched in a dozen big league seasons, with his best season coming with the Indians in 1967.  Hargan earned a promotion to the Indians in the summer of 1965, and he'd be a mainstay in Cleveland's starting pitching rotation for the next four-plus seasons.  He won 13 games in 1966, finishing third in the league with a 2.48 ERA.  Hargan was 14-13 with a 2.62 ERA in 30 games in 1967, earning a spot on the American League All-Star team.  He threw 15 complete games that season and led the league with six shutouts.  Hargan would go on to win 11 games in 1970, and 12 games with the Rangers in 1974.

A series of injuries derailed Hargan's career, and he'd pitch just two more seasons in the majors, seeing his last action with the Braves in 1977.  Hargan attempted a minor league comeback in 1978 before retiring.  In 354 games, he was 87-107 with a 3.92 ERA and 891 strikeouts over 1,632 innings pitched.

Building the Set /
Card #329
December 3, 2023 from The Philly Show (Uncle Dick's Cards)
Doug and I returned to The Philly Show in early December, once again held inside the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania.  eBay has taken over sponsorship of the show, with the quaint, bubble-lettered Philly Show logo that had been in place since the 1980s replaced with a more modern logo, keeping with the times.  I wrote about the show in a post over at The Phillies Room.

Similar to my strategy from March, I wanted to focus on accumulating commons and having found success with Uncle Dick's Cards before, I didn't mess around and headed right for the neon green binders.  I pulled 145 cards from the binder containing cards 301 to the end of the set, stopping when I reached 500.  This card was the 37th of 145 cards purchased for our set, and after the dealer discount due to my bulk purchase, it cost me less than $1.

The Card / Indians Team Set / Accuracy Index +1
Topps used this exact same photo for Hargan's 1967 Topps card.  Someone also made the discovery that the back of the card contains an uncorrected error.  Hargan's line for 1963 indicates he had 13 strikeouts and 72 walks, while in reality he had 72 strikeouts and 15 walks.  The write-up on the back refers to Hargan's arm trouble and he had surgery following the 1968 season to try to correct his ailing ulnar nerve.

Accuracy Index:  Hargan scores points for the accurate Indians uniform (+5), but loses points (-4) as Topps had used this photo before.

1969 Season
Hargan was 5-14 for the last place Indians, with a 5.70 ERA in 32 games, including 23 starts.  He threw one complete game shutout on August 4th against the first place Orioles.
