Bruce Michael Look
Minnesota Twins
Catcher

Bats:  Left  Throws:  Right  Height:  5'11"  Weight:  183
Born:  June 9, 1943, Lansing, MI

Bruce Look played football and baseball at Michigan State University before serving in the U.S. Army.  Originally signed by the Braves in 1964, he spent four seasons in the Dodgers system before being selected by the Twins in the 1967 rule 5 draft.  Look spent the entire 1968 season in the majors, his only year in the majors, serving as the back-up catcher to John Roseboro (#218).  Look appeared in 59 games, making 29 starts behind the plate, and batted .246 with four doubles and nine RBIs.  He'd play for three more seasons with the top farm teams of the Twins, Yankees and Brewers before retiring from baseball in 1971.

Building the Set /
Card #305
December 3, 2023 from The Philly Show (Uncle Dick's Cards)
Doug and I returned to The Philly Show in early December, once again held inside the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania.  eBay has taken over sponsorship of the show, with the quaint, bubble-lettered Philly Show logo that had been in place since the 1980s replaced with a more modern logo, keeping with the times.  I wrote about the show in a post over at The Phillies Room.

Similar to my strategy from March, I wanted to focus on accumulating commons and having found success with Uncle Dick's Cards before, I didn't mess around and headed right for the neon green binders.  I pulled 145 cards from the binder containing cards 301 to the end of the set, stopping when I reached 500.  This card was the 13th of 145 cards purchased for our set, and after the dealer discount due to my bulk purchase, it cost me a little over $1.25.

The Card / Twins Team Set / Accuracy Index +3
This is not only Look's first and last Topps card, it's his first and last baseball card.  With very few minor league teams issuing cards in the late 1960s and 1970s, his sole season with the Twins led to his one and only cardboard appearance.  The back of the card celebrates his football heroics for Michigan State and the write-up gives a synopsis of his team movements since 1964.

Accuracy Index:  If you have to have one and only one baseball card appearance, this is a pretty good one.  Look's card drops to +3 as he didn't play with the Twins in 1969 (-2).

1969 Season
The Twins opted for George Mitterwald (#491) as their back-up catcher to Roseboro in 1969, and Look spent all season with the Denver Bears.  In 106 games, he batted .223 with a pair of home runs and 37 RBIs.  He'd stick around in the Twins' system for all of 1970 before being sent to the Yankees in early 1971.
